How many shoes?

I'm starting a new teaching series at RiverTree this weekend. The title is Consumed. The general premise is to ask the question, "Are you a consumer or are you consumed by the things of God?"

So, to kick this off, let's start with an interesting survey. How many pairs of shoes do you own--please include boots, sneakers, house slippers, etc. When you respond, please feel free to do so anonymously but let us know if you are male or female. Of course we already know that men own more shoes than women . . .

Looking forward to hearing from you! I'm off to count!

I really, really wanted to create an Imelda Marcos profile to answer this one.

I have 1 pair of shoes that I wear almost daily, I have two other pairs that are in good condition, and one pair of good hiking boots. I also have some old junk shoes for my dirty jobs. And of course I have the pair of slippers I'm wearing now.

So I guess I have five pairs that I wear every now and then, and one pair that I wear nearly daily. Six.

Of course our shoes alone make us incredibly wealthy compared to most of the world.

I'm male. I know my name being Mike should make that obvious, but I had a female friend years ago who went by Mikey.

Prior to last week I would have told you that I had 2 pair of shoes for work, and a pair of tennis shoes and a pair of slippers, plus maybe a few pair of shoes stuffed in the back of the closet that I don't wear anymore.

Then came our trip to drop off at Goodwill last week....

Collectively our family donated over 35 pairs of shoes - and I'll bet we kept just as many, probably more.

So for me personally, I know that I still have 9 pairs including slippers, that I "just couldn't part with."

I'm a guy...

Ouch! First of all, let me say that all of my possessions are in one 12 x 10 feet room with a small closet. I think I counted them all but it is possible that there are some packed away.

5 pairs sneakers
10 pairs casual shoes
8 pairs flip flops
2 pairs house slippers
2 pairs boots
8 pairs sandles

Embarrassing.

Guy here.

People always say they never suspected me to be the type, but...I'm sure that I have well over 50 pairs of shoes/boots if not more. We have walk-in closets, but there isn't enough space for cubbies, so they're on the floor stacked on top of each other. I didn't feel like draging them all out to count them, but I did go and measured how deep my "shoe stacks" are just for you, and at they're tallest point they're 24 inches high. That's not counting my barn boots, riding boots and hunting boots that I keep downstairs.

I'm getting better, though. While there has never been a time that I didn't have oodles of shoes, my mother will tell you that during one phase of my life, I probably had 10 pairs of combat boots and Doc Martens...all the same style, all the same color...black. Now I think I only have 5, but now that I think about it, I fear that I may have merely shifted to riding boots, instead. I know I have 5 pairs of black cowboy boots easy and at least 1 pair of English.

But in my defense, 99% of my shoes come from the same place my clothes do...the Salvation Army, even the top designers...so really, I probably only paid $5 at most for the majority of them. The more expensive ones (like the riding boots) came from hugely discounted Ebay auctions...SWEAR!

i have 7 pair ,seems like I need all for what I do, but does seem silly. "Hope Lives" is an eye opener! I keep going back to a page early in the book where the author talks about the need for our Christian lives to get messy. Or in other words, "involved"!
very challenging, I hope to be empowered by God to get messy!
