Best new Christmas music

Every year I listen to a lot of new Christmas music. Here's the best . . . and worst of what I've found this year.

Honorable mentions:

Christmas Spirit by Los Lonely Boys. A few fun songs on this one. Best rendition of Feliz Navidad I've ever heard. Also check out Run Run Rudolph and Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer.

Peace On Earth by Casting Crowns. Check out O Come All Ye Faithful, Joy To The World and Away In A Manger.

Best so far:

The Dawn Of Grace by Sixpence None The Richer. Very creative musically and as always featuring Leigh Nash's inimitable, haunting vocals. Angels We Have Heard On High, River and Silent Night are worth the price of the recording.

Don't even think about buying this:

Joy To The World by Faith Hill. Uuuugh!

Found any good Christmas music?

The only new one I could recommend would be Spyro Gyra's A Night Before Christmas.

One of my favorite contemporary Christmas CD's is Eden's Bridge's Celtic Christmas which was recently re released as Irish Christmas. It's some wonderful music.

"Mary Did You Know" by Clay Aikens

Beautiful song and an answer to Pastor Al's sermon last sunday.

Not a huge Clay fan but this song brought joy to my heart.

Thanks Pastor Greg

"How Many Kings" by DownHere
The lyrics are especially great.

How many kings step down from their thrones?
How many lords have abandoned their homes?
How many greats have become the least for me?
And how many gods have poured out their hearts
To romance a world that is torn all apart
How many fathers gave up their sons for me?
Only one did that for me

I Celebrate the Day by Relient K

Hands down the best Christmas song I have ever heard. The last few verses are my favorite.

Old stuff by Bing Crosby. Growing up in the 50s, these have become cherished memories of the times.

I've come to love "Mary did you know" by several artists - and seperately I like Kutless - but Kutless doing that song - I guess I'd have to hear it.

My first reaction is "strange" but then I think about some of the stuff David Cook did last year on american idol and I guess I can see where it coul dhave the potential to "rock."

Gonna have to check that out.

I'll take a pass on Faith Hill also...

Although it technically isn't Christmas music, I just heard this great song for the first time the other day on 91.3 WAPS The Summit. It's called "Come to Jesus" by Mindy Smith. Here's a link to the youtube video: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=EszkFu1WPHw

I do like "Come to Jesus" Mindy Smith, but she does have a Christmas Album too, called "My Holiday." I like "Come Around" and some others too. I still like Over The Rhine's Christmas Album from last year or before, but can't think of the name. Can't wait to try some of Greg's suggestions. I do like "a Baby Changes Everything" on Faith's but that was it!

I also like the Sheryl Crow song, "There is a star that shines tonight". Here arrangement of "Go Tell it on the Mountain" is kinda cool too, but different!
