107 mph
I was astonished when I read this story in the news . . .
"An Oregon teenager said she didn't see the police officer trying to pull her over for driving 107 mph because she was too busy talking on her cell phone!"
Ummm.
And then I thought of the way I sometimes live my life.
Perhaps God is trying to get my attention when I'm flying through my days but I'm too busy talking on my cell phone, checking e-mail, etc?

These days when see someone driving erratically I almost always see a cellphone up to their ear.
Are we really all in such a hurry to get to the end of this thing we call life? We need to stop and take a picture of the roses with our cell phone cameras. ;-)
I wanted to mention that God got our attention through your sermon a week ago. Actually, my wife had been having very understandable reservations about inviting a homeless man into our house for Thanksgiving dinner. She prayed about it for the better part of a week, and asked God to make it very, very clear to her (because we often don't pick up on the subtle hints). Anyhow, we found it both humorous and awesome that you said in your message "wouldn't it be great if RT didn't have to go out delivering meals because each of us had invited someone in need into our own home for Thanksgiving dinner..."
Um - we took that as the clear indication that she had prayed for. We are so looking forward to spending Thanksgiving with this man. This will certainly be one to remember, both for us and for him. My wife has said that she has tremendous peace about it, and just has peace in her life more than she has in a long time.
It's awesome to see how God works and communicates with us, and meets us when/where/how we need...
You guys rock! Have a GREAT Thanksgiving.

Anonymous' act reminded me of a Sports Night episode called The Quality of Mercy at 29K. Dan finds a homeless man in his office and is terrified, especially after giving the man a sandwich, the man pulls out a switch blade...and then cuts the sandwich with it. It was an awesome episode.
I agree, Greg, they totally rock!
I appreciate the comments, but it's not us that rock. What rocks is that God is opening our eyes to his will for our lives and is providing us with courage to live more like Jesus (don't get me wrong - I'm not at all implying that we're anywhere NEAR the standard of Jesus - just that more often we're finding opportunities to make decisions not through our own eyes but through Jesus' eyes (or at least what we perceive that to be).
Having said that, we also had the opportunity to invite a mentally challenged person (high functioning) to our house for an afternoon that same weekend.
My wife jokes that we're not in control anymore - that God is taking us on a whirlwind (actually we never were in control - we just tried to be).
As anticipated we had a fabulous time on both occassions. These guys both had days that I'm sure they will remember for a long, long time, and the same is true for us.
It's amazing what rewards there are in sacrificing and giving.
Goodness is a reward in itself. I pray that we'll continue to be open to his leading and doing his will when and where we can.
It's good to be on God's team!
