Break my heart

A friend of mine sent me this link to view. It broke my heart . . . God broke my heart. May my heart break with the things that break God's heart.

Great video. I loved the math in it. We as a society, here in the US particularly, are so consumeristic and so wasteful. It's ingrained in us and it's hard to change. Videos like this don't stay fresh in our minds long enough. It would be nice to see that math in front of me every time I bought an expensive cup of coffee or worse, bought any of the concessions at the movie theater. I think of Paul in prison, or Brother Lawrence, countless monks of any religious order, Christian or others, so satisfied with no material possessions at all.

Our budget for giving to those in need should be much, much greater than our entertainment budget. Sadly it is quite the opposite.

This leaves me with the question "How are we going to repond to this calling to move beyond ourselves?" I give but am still a selfish man. This past week I bought a SUV that was totally unnecessary. I'll start by putting it up for sale. Then what I ask myself. I pray for God's guidance for our family to repond in the way that Jesus would want for us. Nothing less.
