Fallingwater

I visited Fallingwater this morning.

Fallling water is the amazing home that Frank Lloyd Wright designed for the Kaufmann family in 1935 in rural Southernwestern Pennsylvania. As amazing as the home is (literally constructed over a falling stream), the most astounding part is that Wright designed his most renowned home when he was 70 years old. Most people thought Wright was retiring and yet after Fallingwater he went on to develop 200 more architectual marvels--including the Guggenheim Museum which he rendered after he was 90 years old!

I want to grow old like that . . .

I hope you do, too. 8^)

But I hope that your successes don't come with the moral price tag that his did. After all, one particular scandal resulted in his banishment from practicing architecture in the U.S. and nearly destroyed his career. I don't think that part of his genius would be very appropriate for a pastor.

FallingWater is an amazing house. FLW was a cantankerous old fart. Maybe the kind of man you want to build your house but not really the kind you'd want living in your house with you. Taliesin West out in Phoenix is pretty neat too. I do love how he wanted people to build homes that flowed into nature.

You can wander to the top of the Guggenheim and hardly feel like you've climbed several stories.

Glad you enjoyed FallingWater.
